Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Location: Worsley , M28

Salary: £12.00 - £12.20 per hour

We are recruiting on behalf of Creative Support for a Senior Support Worker in Worsley. Creative Support is a not for profit provider of person centred care and support. Creative Support is a not-for-profit organisation promoting the independence, inclusion and wellbeing of people with care and support needs. We do this by working with the people we support, their families and partner agencies to deliver innovative, high-quality services to meet individual needs and aspirations.

The Role:

You will be responsible for the daily running of a Salford Intensive Support service. You will ensure that all contract requirements, safety standards are fully met. You will lead the staff team in delivering an high quality person centred support. You will support the staff team to fulfil their job role within the required expectations. You will be required to be fully flexible and work on a rota basis multisite working. You will have a professional manner and be confident in building a working relationship with professionals and outside agencies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with service users.
  • To promote the self-esteem, happiness and emotional health of service users.
  • To respect the person’s right to privacy and to ensure that their dignity is maintained at all times.
  • To encourage and support service users in expressing their needs, views and concerns. To enable service users make choices and decisions and to participate as fully as possible in planning and decision-making processes.
  • To respect and promote the rights and entitlements of people with a learning disability and intensive support needs and to enable them to participate as fully as possible in their communities.
  • To be responsive to the individual needs of service users within the framework of their Person Centred Plans and to respond flexibly to changing needs.
  • To enable service users to become as independent as possible and to grow in confidence, competence and personal effectiveness. In the following areas; Social skills/relationships, Personal care & hygiene, Daily living skills , Using community resources and facilities, Social, leisure and work activities , Self organisation and coping abilities and Personal safety.
  • To devise duty rota’s in accordance with agreed commissioned hours, staffing requirements and the needs of service users. To be pro-active and resourceful in addressing any gaps in service provision. To inform senior colleagues of the need for additional resources when required.
  • To ensure that all record keeping, general administration, housing management functions and services are carried out efficiently and to a high standard and to take responsibility for key tasks in these areas.
  • To provide respectful personal care in accordance with the needs, wishes and preferred routines outlined in the individual’s personal support plans. Some individuals will require support with their physical/mobility disabilities and may require support in wheelchairs, using hoists and other appropriate equipment to meet personal needs

Essential Experience

  • Driver preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate a warm, person centred and affirmative approach to people with a learning disability and intensive support needs
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to listen sensitively to others
  • Ability to engage with service users, to develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate significant understanding of the needs of people with a learning disability and intensive support needs
  • Good written communication skills
  • Ability to work constructively and co-operatively as part of a consistent team approach
  • Able to work safely and responsibly without direct supervision in service users homes
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, self-motivation and resourcefulness
  • Understanding of the person centred aims and principles of Creative Support and ability to put these into practice
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for difference and diversity
  • Ability to provide emotional and practical support to service users
  • A non-judgmental, accepting approach to working with people who may be challenging and the ability to cope in a mature way with conflict, distress and challenging behaviours
  • Ability to work in a calm, patient and tolerant manner at a pace appropriate to the needs of the individual
  • Ability to enable people to enjoy developmental opportunities without being exposed to unacceptable risks
  • Ability to support and supervise junior staff and provide on the job coaching
  • Knowledge of helpful approaches, strategies and interventions in working with people with a learning disability and intensive support needs
  • Ability to use a range of helpful communication techniques (e.g. Makaton, PECS, TEACCH System, etc)
  • The ability to serve as a professional role model to colleagues
  • The ability to supervise junior staff and to deputise for the Unit Business Manager
  • Experience of supporting people with a learning disability and intensive support needs
  • Life experience and confidence in relating to people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Possession of NVQ or other relevant social care qualification
  • Good standard of general education
  • Willingness to work flexible hours according to needs of agency and service users
  • Willingness to attend training courses and events
  • Willing to accept feedback and guidance and be accountable to colleagues and managers

Hours of Work:

Full-time – 37.5 hours per week. To be worked flexibly on a rota which will include evenings, sleep- ins, weekends and public holidays according to the needs of the service.

Shift patterns:

Vary between:

Early – 07:45-15:00

Late – 14:45- 22:00

Long day – 07:45-22:00
